Final Selection of 50 Sub-Grantees for DGM Nepal's Competitive Grant
DGM Nepal is pleased to announce the final selection of 50 sub-grantees under its first Call for Proposal Expression of Interest (EOI) Competitive Grant, focusing on the Madhesh and Lumbini provinces. This rigorous selection process was designed to align with DGM Nepal’s strategic objectives, emphasizing social equity, environmental sustainability, and inclusive economic growth through the sustainable management of forest resources and the promotion of non-timber forest products (NTFPs).
The selected projects reflect a commitment to advancing the goals of REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) and sustainable forest management. By prioritizing initiatives that focus on the sustainable use of forest resources, including NTFPs, these projects aim to enhance local livelihoods while contributing to broader environmental conservation efforts. The emphasis on value-added products and enterprising activities within the forest sector is expected to create new economic opportunities for local communities, particularly in remote and underserved areas.
The evaluation framework for selecting these sub-grantees incorporated several key criteria, including the potential of each proposal to generate significant socio-economic impacts and promote sustainable livelihoods. Projects were selected not only for their technical merit but also for their capacity to empower Indigenous and local communities through sustainable enterprise development. Special attention was given to initiatives that integrate NTFPs into local economies, adding value to raw materials and fostering the development of marketable products. This approach is intended to create resilient income streams for communities while reducing pressure on forest resources. Geographical integration was a crucial consideration, with the selection process ensuring a balanced representation of projects across districts and local levels. This focus on spatial equity was complemented by a prioritization of proposals from vulnerable groups, including Dalits, persons with disabilities, women, and youth.
Extensive Field Verification
The selection process involved comprehensive field verifications across 18 districts and 50 municipalities in Madhesh and Lumbini. This rigorous process ensured that the chosen projects are not only feasible but also capable of delivering significant benefits to the communities they serve.
The selection of these 50 sub-grantees marks a significant milestone in DGM Nepal’s efforts to empower local communities and promote sustainable development. We congratulate the selected sub-grantees and look forward to supporting their efforts to bring about positive change in their communities.
