Jyamire Community Forest User Group manages community forest in Lumbini Province and belongs to the community-based forest management category DGM Nepal prioritises in its grant eligibility. Its third-batch sub-project produces bio-fertiliser, or organic manure, converting leaf litter, forest floor debris, pruning residue and other organic material into a marketable soil input. The model fits a forest user group unusually well: it earns income from biomass that would otherwise go unused, requires no felling whatsoever, and returns nutrients to surrounding farmland in a district where chemical fertiliser is expensive and frequently unavailable. Grant funds are expected to cover composting pits or sheds, shredding and turning equipment, quality testing, bagging and packaging, and training in composting technique and marketing. Revenue accrues to the user group and can be reinvested in forest management, creating a direct financial return from well-maintained forest that is the core logic of DGM Nepal’s grant scheme.
