Shree JanaUday Community Forest User Group manages community forest in Lumbini Province, one of the community-based forest management groups given priority in DGM Nepal’s grant eligibility criteria. Its third-batch sub-project establishes an organic and bio-manure production enterprise, converting forest litter, pruning waste and other organic residue into a saleable soil amendment. The design turns a routine forest management task into revenue: material that must be cleared anyway becomes the raw input, no trees are cut, and the finished product returns nutrients to farmland in a region where chemical fertiliser is costly and supply unreliable. Grant funds are expected to cover composting infrastructure, shredding and turning equipment, quality testing to establish nutrient content and credibility with buyers, bagging and packaging, and training in production and marketing. Income accrues to the user group for reinvestment in forest management, making well-maintained forest directly profitable for the community that protects it.
