Upcoming Training and Technical Support for Business Plan Preparation and Entrepreneurship Development for Grantees
Background The CIF/World Bank supported Dedicated Grant Mechanism for Indigenous Peoples and Local communities in Nepal (DGM Nepal) project is progressing slowly but steadily. The DGM Nepal project is a World Bank-funded project designed as a complementary initiative to the Nepal Forest Investment Program (FIP). FIP was formulated in 2009 as part of climate change initiatives announced by the World Bank under the Climate Investment Funds (CIFs). This project, implemented by Rural Reconstruction Nepal (RRN) as the National Executing Agency (NEA), focuses on supporting forest-dependent Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs) in Madhesh and Lumbini Provinces.
The first call for Expression of Interest (EOI) was published on 20 November 2023, with a deadline of 20 December 2023. It was well responded by 280 applicants from Madhesh and Lumbini provinces. The pre-selection of these potential grantees was completed by a team of NSC and NEA. Out of which 108 EOIs (Madhesh=58 and Lumbini=50) were shortlisted. Followed by the shortlisting, business proposal development training was provided to the shortlisted applicants. 92 full proposals were received and 50 applicants have been provided grants. In order to significantly enhance the capacity of the grantees, training and technical support for business plan preparation and entrepreneurship development has been designed. Therefore, this concept note outlines a structured approach to deliver such support, aiming to empower grantees to develop sustainable and impactful forest-based business ventures for which they have received the grants. This training is also aimed at making those potential grantees aware of the significance of the DGM project and its critical aspects in Nepal’s sustainable forest management and engagement of the IPLCs.
2. Objectives
The main aim is to provide training and technical support to grantees of Madhesh and Lumbini provinces to enhance their capacity in business plan preparation and entrepreneurship development. The specific objectives are as follows:

Entrepreneurship Development: Foster an entrepreneurial mindset among grantees by providing them with tools, techniques, and mentorship to start and sustain their businesses.
Sustainability: Ensure the long-term success of businesses by integrating sustainability and resilience into business planning and operations.
Market Linkages: Facilitate connections between grantees and potential markets, investors, and other relevant stakeholders.
Methodology
