Jadibuti Upayog Sahakari Sanstha Ltd is a medicinal plant utilisation cooperative in Lumbini Province, selected in DGM Nepal’s third batch of competitive small grants. Its sub-project produces herbal tea and establishes a nursery for the herbal plants that supply it. Pairing the two is what makes the enterprise durable: the nursery guarantees consistent, traceable raw material of known species rather than depending on variable wild collection, while herbal tea is a finished consumer product that captures far more value than selling dried leaf in bulk and has growing demand in Nepal’s domestic wellness market and among visitors. Grant funds are expected to cover nursery infrastructure and planting stock, plantation, drying, blending and packaging equipment, food-safety and quality standards, branding and market linkage. Shifting supply from wild harvest to cultivation relieves pressure on depleted medicinal species, aligning the cooperative’s commercial interest with DGM Nepal’s forest conservation aims.
