Aadhunik Nepal is an organisation in Lumbini Province awarded a third-batch DGM Nepal competitive small grant. Its sub-project covers herbal, or jadibuti, production, collection, processing and sale, spanning the full chain rather than a single stage. That breadth is the point: Nepal’s medicinal plant trade is structurally lopsided, with collectors selling raw, ungraded material at a small fraction of its eventual value while processing and margin accrue elsewhere, and much of the supply still coming from wild harvest that has depleted several species. Combining cultivation with organised collection, local processing and direct sale addresses both problems at once. Grant funds are expected to cover planting material and nursery stock, collection arrangements with local gatherers, drying, grinding and packaging equipment, quality standards, and linkage with herbal processors and buyers. The enterprise creates forest-linked income while shifting supply from wild extraction toward cultivation, matching DGM Nepal’s sustainable forest management objectives.
