Butwal Chamber of Commerce and Industry is the private-sector body of Butwal, the main commercial centre of Rupandehi and of Lumbini Province. Its third-batch DGM Nepal sub-project covers compost manure and leaf plate making enterprises together. Involving a chamber of commerce serves a purpose the community grantees cannot: chambers hold the market relationships, retail contacts and institutional buyer networks that small forest-based producers most often lack, and both products chosen are ones where the constraint is reliable offtake rather than production capacity. Compost converts organic residue into a farm input in a district where chemical fertiliser is costly and erratic, while duna and tapari leaf plates serve rising demand from Butwal’s caterers, hotels and institutions replacing plastic tableware. Grant funds are expected to cover composting and pressing equipment, production sheds, quality standards and market development, supporting DGM Nepal’s aim of commercially viable forest-linked enterprises.
