Community Agro and Forestry, working with the Milijuli Women Farmers Group, is based at Runtigadhi Rural Municipality-7, Shahid Smriti Marg, Rolpa, Lumbini Province. Its DGM Nepal second-batch sub-project produces and processes two prized mid-hill forest commodities: timmur, Sichuan pepper from Zanthoxylum armatum, and chiuri, the Nepalese butter tree Diploknema butyracea, whose seeds yield chiuri ghee used in cooking, soap and cosmetics and whose flowers support honey production. Both are traditionally gathered from forest and farm boundaries and both fetch strong prices when properly dried, graded and processed rather than sold raw. Grant support is expected to cover plantation and management of both species, drying, grading and oil-extraction equipment, and training in post-harvest handling and marketing for women members. The sub-project fits DGM Nepal’s priorities on several fronts: women-led enterprise, non-timber forest products, added value retained locally, and income that depends on keeping trees standing.
