Ghancha Luhung Magar Bheja is a bheja, the traditional customary institution through which Magar communities govern shared resources and community affairs, located at Tinau Rural Municipality-1, Kachal, Palpa, Lumbini Province. Its second-batch DGM Nepal sub-project plants amriso, broom grass, and manufactures brooms. Amriso, Thysanolaena maxima, is one of Nepal’s most reliable hill cash crops: it establishes quickly on sloping and degraded land, binds soil against erosion, is cut annually without replanting, and supplies a steady domestic and Indian market for brooms while its stems and leaves serve as fodder and fuel. Grant funds are expected to cover planting material, plantation on member and community land, broom-making tools and a work shed, and training and market linkage. Supporting the bheja is significant in itself: DGM Nepal explicitly aims to strengthen customary Indigenous institutions for natural resource management, and this sub-project channels enterprise income through one.
