Ghumna Samudayik Ban Upabhokta Samuh is a community forest user group at Lamahi Municipality-4, Ghumna, Dang, Lumbini Province, and one of the community-based forest management groups explicitly prioritised in DGM Nepal’s competitive grant eligibility criteria. Its second-batch sub-project develops bamboo and rattan production, cultivating and harvesting both from community forest land and converting them into marketable goods. Bamboo and rattan are ideal community forestry commodities: they regenerate rapidly after cutting, can be harvested annually without depleting the resource, and supply a steady market for furniture, baskets, mats, poles and construction material across the Terai. Grant support is expected to cover plantation establishment, processing tools and machinery, a work shed, and craft and enterprise training for user-group members. Income accrues to the user group and is typically reinvested in forest management. The sub-project links forest conservation directly to member livelihoods, the central logic of DGM Nepal’s grant scheme.
