Green Foundation Dang is an environmental non-governmental organisation at Lamahi Municipality-9, Amiliya, Dang, Lumbini Province, awarded a second-batch DGM Nepal competitive small grant. Its sub-project establishes a bamboo enterprise covering cultivation through to finished products. Bamboo is among the most commercially viable forest commodities in the Terai: it establishes on degraded and riverside land, reaches harvestable size within a few years, regenerates from the same clump indefinitely, and feeds a reliable market for furniture, construction poles, panels, baskets and handicrafts. The grant is expected to cover plantation establishment, processing machinery, treatment and seasoning facilities, a production shed, and enterprise and technical training for participating households. By supplying cultivated bamboo, the enterprise reduces harvesting pressure on natural stands while sequestering carbon in fast-growing biomass. The sub-project supports DGM Nepal’s twin goals of creating green jobs for forest-dependent communities and strengthening sustainable forest management in Lumbini Province.
