The Kalyandehi river conservation, nursery establishment, and breen belt development project implemented by Kalyandehi Nadi Niyantaran Sanstha, Siraha, aims to promote ecological restoration, riverbank stabilization, and sustainable environmental management along the Kalyandehi river. The project focuses on establishing a well‑managed nursery to produce quality saplings required for large‑scale plantation and conservation activities. Through the protection and rehabilitation of a 2 km stretch of the riverbank, the program seeks to control erosion, prevent flooding, improve water retention, and enhance the overall river ecosystem. Additionally, the plantation of diverse species including shade‑giving trees, fruit‑bearing plants, medicinal herbs, and soil‑binding vegetation along a 3 km corridor aims to create a resilient green belt that strengthens biodiversity and long‑term ecological balance. The project also emphasizes proper management of sewage discharge, community awareness on river conservation, and adoption of nature‑based solutions to protect vulnerable sections of the river. Active participation of local communities, youth groups, and stakeholders is encouraged through training, mobilization, and capacity-building activities to ensure sustainable stewardship of natural resources. With a 24‑month duration supported by DGM Nepal, the initiative is expected to significantly improve environmental health, restore degraded river landscapes, protect settlements from natural hazards, and establish a model of community-led river conservation and eco-friendly development for future generations.
