NEFIN Lumbini Province is the provincial body of the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities, the national umbrella organisation of Nepal’s Indigenous peoples, and one of the institutional partners closest to DGM Nepal’s core constituency. Its third-batch sub-project establishes fruit plantations with Indigenous member households across the province. Fruit trees provide something annual cropping cannot: a durable asset producing for decades once established, along with permanent tree cover that adds biomass and carbon, stabilises soil and supplies shade and fodder. Grant funds are expected to cover grafted saplings suited to local conditions, orchard establishment, fencing, irrigation, and training in pruning, pest management and post-harvest handling, the stage where smallholder orchards most often lose value. Working through a provincial federation allows the model to be demonstrated across several districts and member organisations rather than a single site, extending reach in line with DGM Nepal’s capacity-building objectives.
