Nepal Kumal Sangh is the national federation of the Kumal, an Indigenous nationality of Nepal traditionally associated with pottery and with settlement along river valleys and forest margins. Its third-batch DGM Nepal sub-project develops moringa farming and processing. Moringa suits the Kumal’s typical circumstances well: it grows fast, tolerates heat, poor soil and dry spells, begins yielding leaves within the first year, and can be harvested repeatedly rather than once a season, so it generates recurring income and does not require prime farmland. Processing leaves into dried powder and seeds into oil turns a highly perishable crop into a storable product with strong demand in the nutrition and health market. Grant funds are expected to cover saplings, plantation establishment, drying and grinding equipment, packaging and training in cultivation and post-harvest handling. The plantation adds permanent tree cover while giving an Indigenous community whose traditional craft livelihood has declined a new income base.
