Saptari Drishtibihin Sangh is the Saptari district association of blind and visually impaired persons, located at Tirahut Rural Municipality-2, Badhara, Saptari, Madhesh Province. Its DGM Nepal second-batch sub-project plants fruit and multipurpose tree species on member and community land, establishing an income stream from fruit sales alongside fodder, fuelwood and shade benefits from multipurpose trees. Perennial tree crops suit members with visual impairment better than intensive annual cropping, since orchards demand concentrated effort at planting and harvest rather than continuous fine-detail work, and tasks can be shared with family members. The grant is expected to cover saplings, fencing, irrigation, orchard establishment and training. DGM Nepal’s selection framework awards additional weight to applicants led by persons with disabilities, and this sub-project directly advances that inclusion objective while adding permanent tree cover to farmland and reducing household dependence on collecting products from nearby natural forest.
