Sip Sakti Uddhamsil Mahila Samuha

Sip Sakti Uddhamsil Mahila Samuha is a women entrepreneurs’ group in Lumbini Province, selected in the third batch of DGM Nepal competitive small grants. Its sub-project makes amriso kucho, the household broom produced from broom grass, Thysanolaena maxima. Amriso is among Nepal’s most dependable hill cash crops: it establishes quickly on sloping and degraded land, binds soil against erosion, is cut annually without replanting, and supplies steady domestic and Indian demand, while its stems and leaves serve as fodder and fuel. Broom making itself is low-capital, labour-intensive and can be done in a shared workspace, which suits a women’s enterprise group building capacity from a modest base. Grant funds are expected to cover planting material where the group also grows amriso, binding and finishing tools, a work shed, storage, skills training and market linkage. The enterprise combines soil conservation with reliable women-led income.
