Dalit Bikash Sewa Kendra is a Dalit-led community organisation at Jaleshwor Municipality-4, Suga, Mahottari, Madhesh Province. Under the second batch of DGM Nepal competitive small grants it establishes an agroforestry nursery producing seedlings of fruit, fodder, timber and multipurpose tree species for sale to farmers, community forest user groups, local government greening programmes and neighboring projects. Nurseries are a common entry point for land-poor households because they generate income from labour and skill rather than large landholdings, which matters for Dalit communities in the Terai who often lack secure land tenure. The grant is expected to fund a nursery shed, seed and polybags, irrigation, and technical training in propagation, grafting and nursery management. DGM Nepal’s selection criteria give explicit weight to Dalit-led applicants. The sub-project supports the project’s wider goals of restoring tree cover, supplying quality planting material locally, and building forest-based enterprise skills among marginalised groups.
