Danuwar Jagaran Samiti works with the Danuwar, an Indigenous community of Nepal’s inner Terai and Siraha district, and is based at Bariyarpatti Rural Municipality-2, Khoksi, Siraha, Madhesh Province. Its DGM Nepal second-batch sub-project builds an integrated lemon value chain: a nursery raising grafted lemon saplings, orchard plantation on member land, and small-scale juice processing so that fruit is sold as a finished product rather than as low-value raw produce. Capturing the nursery and processing stages allows the group to retain more margin and to absorb gluts during peak harvest when farm-gate prices collapse. Grant support typically covers mother plants and grafting materials, plantation inputs, juice processing and bottling equipment, food-safety training and market linkage. The design fits DGM Nepal’s emphasis on Indigenous-led, forest-linked small and medium enterprises, and lemon plantation adds perennial tree cover to farmland while diversifying income for forest-dependent Danuwar households.
