Janamukhi Krishi Sahakari Sanstha is an agricultural cooperative at Nawarajpur Rural Municipality-3, Majoura, Siraha, Madhesh Province, awarded a second-batch DGM Nepal competitive small grant. Its sub-project combines bamboo plantation with the manufacture of bamboo products, linking raw material supply to processing within a single cooperative. Bamboo suits this model well: it establishes quickly on marginal and riverside land, can be harvested within a few years, regenerates without replanting and yields poles, mats, furniture, baskets and construction material with steady demand across the Terai. Expected grant use includes rhizomes and plantation establishment, processing tools and machinery, a work shed, and skills training for cooperative members. Cooperative structure allows shared equipment, pooled marketing, and reinvestment of surplus. By producing bamboo on cooperative and member land, the sub-project reduces harvesting pressure on natural forest, adds fast-growing biomass and carbon, and creates local green jobs consistent with DGM Nepal’s objectives.
